Project Overview:
Alpha Building Corporation worked with Texas A&M University to replace the existing roof at Rudder Tower on the Texas A&M University Campus. The 13 story building has 11,500 square feet and three different elevations ranging from nine feet above the main roof line to 20 feet below the main roof line. The existing leaking, deteriorated, spray foam roof was taken down to the decking and replaced with Twenty Year SPF/Silicone System as request by the client. Multiple cell towers are located on top of the building and one required daily shut down before work could proceed due to potential radiation. Our team reinstalled a lightening protection system to prevent damage to the new roof and to the building.
Rudder Tower is centrally located on campus next to the Memorial Student Center and experiences extremely high pedestrian traffic on a daily basis. The safety of those pedestrians and our workers was of upmost importance on this project. Falling or flying debris had to be prevented entirely and equipment had to be lifted 13 stories. Access to the jobsite could only be reached through an elevator within the building which required our team to protect the hallways, flooring and elevator from any damage. Alpha brought our safety officer to the jobsite multiple times as an additional resource and to ensure we were correctly transporting materials and performing our work in the safest way possible. Scaffolding, construction fencing, pedestrian cover and canopy frames were just a few of the safety measures put in place for this project. The safety challenges were many on this jobsite, but the completed roof was a success that the University will enjoy for years.
